History of Dolls
Historical evidence suggests that dolls are among the oldest known toys, having been discovered in Egyptian tombs dating back to 2000BC, as well as in ancient children’s graves from Egypt and Greece. These ancient dolls were most commonly constructed of wood, though dolls made of pottery have also been found, presumably from wealthier families. Whilst the earliest dolls were originally constructed in Egypt and Greece, Rome became a popular doll producer developing the Egyptian and Greek technology further, whilst making their dolls more beautiful and elegant in accordance with their cultural and social considerations. Eventually, doll production in Europe would rival anywhere else in the world. With the age of the internet came virtual dolls allowing users to design, dress and play with their dolls in an online environment.
